How-tos

Library Staff is available to assist patrons in person or on the telephone.

Access the Internet

The Vaughn Public Library currently has 8 public access computers.  One computer is designated for a 15-minute session.  The other seven computers are available for a 60-minute session.  If the computers are busy and you need more than 15-minutes on the computer, you may make a reservation on our Pharos reservation computer.  The monitor will "queue " you when a computer is available.

If you have a card from any library served by NWLS (Northern Waters Library Service), including VPL, you can login to use any of the public access computers, using your library card bar code as the ID and your date of birth as your password.  NOTE:  The password must be entered in this format, including hyphens '-'.
For example, if your birthdate is March 5, 1990, you would enter 03-05-1990 for your password.

If you are a visitor,  see Library Staff at the Circulation Desk to have a guest account created.

The library also has WiFi available if you bring in your own laptop with wireless connectivity.

Request Library Materials

Holds for materials owned by other libraries in the Merlin system may be placed via your home computer from Merlin or ask Library Staff for assistance.

Materials not held in the Merlin system may be available via the state library catalog.  Ask Library Staff about WISCAT.

Get a Library Card

If you reside in Wisconsin, to obtain a FREE library card, at VPL you may bring in a form of ID with your name and your current address (drivers license, checkbook, rental agreement).  If you are under age 16, your parent or guardian must sign a registration card on your behalf to obtain a library card.

If you reside outside of Wisconsin, there is a fee to obtain a library card.  See Library Staff for details .

Wireless Printing

In order to print from your personal Windows laptop to Vaughn Library printers you will need to perform a printer installation for 32 bit or 64 bit systems (Don't know which one you have? Click here).

Once installed, it will allow you to print while on our wireless network.

When you print a document, this software will ask you for your Library card number, and to "Name" your print job. You may then pay for, and print your document at the print station next to the Public Internet workstations.
